The truth about the Easter Bunny

I bought some plastic eggs today filled with candy, Carson was with me and I asked him if it would be okay for us to leave them for the Easter bunny to hide. Our conversation went like this:

Carson: "Mom who is going to dress up like the easter bunny?"
Me: "What do you mean baby?"
Carson: "Mom the easter bunny is not real!"
Me: "Well is Santa?"
Carson: "Of course mom! Santa and the toothfairy are real!! The easter bunny is not. Can Mark hide the eggs? He is a great hider!"

So we left it at that. I will let him figure things out in his own time. He just turned 4 last month though! He is incredibly smart though. He is learning how to add and subtract and how to read already. I will never force him to believe things that are not real, but it still took me back that he doesn't believe and he is so young.

pictures anyone?!

17 weeks!

We have made it to week 17! Time is flying. I cannot believe we are almost halfway to meeting this little poof. This week poof is about 5 inches long and weighs roughly 5 oz. Below is a turnip, this is roughly how big the baby is right now! The baby can also start to hear this week and will start reacting to noises. So we will test out this theory later with a little music to the tummy :)

We're not doing much today, Carson has his first soccer game this up coming Saturday at 11am. He is so excited, we brought him out to the fields behind our house last night and he is a natural at playing already. He just has to learn not to pick the ball up with his hand. lol I will be sure to post some pictures up after his first game!

Appointment update

So I had my appointment yesterday, it went very well. I made my big appointment for the much anticipated ultrasound. We scheduled it for April 9th at 1:30pm. We had to wait a little bit because my doctor has changed his mind and would prefer to send me to a level iii ultrasound. It is a more in depth and a very sensitive ultrasound machine. We will be able to pick up even the blood flow inside the baby, count all ten toes and fingers too. They are referring me out to this doctor because of my previous pregnancy complications... My doctor feels it is better to be safe than sorry. We should have our blood test results in the next week or so as well. So far I am still weighing in at 142 lbs, so I have not caught up with my original weight yet. The doctor is not concerned about my lack of weight gain though, he says we are growing a baby not me. lol So for now we have a week and a half until we will know the sex of little poof.

Naming game

So I know we have been pretty tight lipped about names but we have decided and we are sharing!

If poof is a girl her name will be...

Geneva Louann Booker - her nickname will be Genna. Geneva comes from Mark's side of the family and Louann was my grandma's name.

Meaning & History of Geneva
Possibly a shortened form of GENEVIEVE. It could also be inspired by the name of the city in Switzerland. It has been used as a given name in the English-speaking world since the 19th century

If poof is a boy his name will be...

Abel Joseph Anthony Booker - his nicknames will be Abe, AJ, or Abey. We just really like the name Abel, Joseph is my dads name and I would like to carry it on, and Anthony is a tradition for boys in Mark's family.

Meaning & History of Abel
From the Hebrew name הֶבֶל (Hevel) or הָבֶל (Havel) which meant "breath". In the Old Testament he is the second son of Adam and Eve, murdered out of envy by his brother Cain. In England, this name came into use during the Middle Ages, and it was common during the Puritan era.

Yepp I'm back.

So the past couple of weeks have been crazy! We ordered the baby crib, it is here and so lovely! I will be assembling it today with the help of a strong handy little 4 year old. On other news, Mark got to feel Poof kick last night! I started crying, it was just a sweet moment. I also have a doctors appointment today. I will be getting the results from my first trimester screening, and having my second round of testing done which is a simple blood draw. Below is a slight description of what the test entails.

Maternal serum alpha-fetoprotein (MSAFP) and multiple marker screening: One or the other is offered routinely in the second trimester. The MSAFP test measures the level of alpha-fetoprotein, a protein produced by the fetus. Abnormal levels indicate the possibility (but not existence) of Down syndrome or a neural tube defect such as spina bifida, which can then be confirmed by ultrasound or amniocentesis.

I am a little nervous, when I had the MSAFP test done with Carson it came back positive for spina bifida. Luckily he did not have this, but talking to my current doctor about it he said that these tests can also be a marker indicating preterm labor or placental issues. Which I had both with Carson.
Anywhoozle Magoozle, I still have touches of morning sickness and still drained of energy but that could also be from our hectic weeks lately. So I will be sure to update tomorrow about the appointment. We will be finding out the sex this week! I am so stinking excited!!

Houston we have movement!

So I am laying here and I cannot sleep! It is 12:45am and Mark is kindly snoring next to me. I was laying incredibly still watching a movie and I felt Poof move! It is the most amazing feeling. It was just a tiny little nudge, but it felt like Poof saying "Hey mom, I'm awake too!" I have also been getting this feeling all day in the "pit" of my stomach. You know that feeling when you go down a hill and your stomach feels weightless? That is the feeling I get. I believe it is from the baby turning over or moving around. Words cannot express how happy I am in this moment.

Angle of the Dangle!

So we had out 12/13 week check up last Tuesday. Everything looks good so far! Poof's heartbeat is now a steady 154, which is good that means s/he is growing! I also had the first trimester screening done witch is a blood test and an ultrasound. We will know the blood results at the next appointment.

This baby is soo stubborn! It definitely is a Booker. lol Every time the ultrasound tech would try to get measurements the baby would turn it's back towards us. We were able to get some profile shots really quick but they are kind of blurry. Also we got a half way decent shot of the dangle! What is that you ask?  Well there is a theory called the angle of the dangle. According to this theory all 12 week old fetus's have a nub. A quote from the site "The determination is made by studying the angle between the genital 'bump' and the direction of the lower portion of the spine. The following images are not typical and intermediate forms do exist, establishing gender can sometimes be difficult." So in a male fetus the genital tubercle usually creates an angle of greater than 30° with the lower part of the spine. With a female fetus the genital tubercle protrudes in the same direction as the lower portion of the spine with an angle of less than 30° relative to the backbone. As demonstrated in the photo below.

Here are our pictures:
Looking at the dangle in this picture I am guessing girl.

Here is a picture of Poof sucking on his/her thumb!

We have talked about it and will officially announce Baby Poof after our next appointment which will be on March 27th. I will be 16 weeks 5 days and we will be planning our BIG ultrasound at the next appointment which will not only be with a genetic specialist but we will also find out the sex of little Poof.
